Indian STP plant manufacturers highlighting Aerobic treatment in ASBs

If you are looking for key information on sewage treatment plants, you should know about the 2 major types of systems used by STP plant manufacturers India to treat sewage. These are aerobic and anaerobic systems. Each treatment is meant for different purposes and has pros and cons. In this article, manufacturers of STPs will discuss about Aerobic treatment in detail.

Aerobic treatment for sewage

Aerobic sewage treatment is a process in which bacteria use oxygen to degrade pollutants and organic matter involved in various production systems. The two common types of aerated waste water systems are activated sludge systems and aerated stabilization basins. The aerated stabilization basins (ASBs) are widely used as treatment systems in the pulp and paper industry and are also used in some industries and municipalities.

There are eight growth pressures that put impact on the treatment system. However, in this post, we will talk about the two major pressures, i.e. oxygen and organic loading. In a general model of wastewater treatment system, the influent entering to the system has the most biochemical oxygen demand as it is untreated. Since the influent reaches the ASB, it makes entry to the aerated environment, which is a starting point of degradation.

Distinct types of aeration are used in ASBs but the widely used are either surface aerators or diffused aeration systems. In case you are using surface aeration, multiple units are required to be properly spaced in order to treat the water. Diffused aeration is normal air supplied through blowers or compressors and piped under the surface. Air is released evenly under the surface throughout the ASB. Occasionally, manufacturers and engineers use pure oxygen in wastewater treatment; however, it is uncommon in ASBs.

The biochemical oxygen demand degradation is achieved through aerobic bacteria in a system. The bacteria present in sewage use oxygen as an electron receptor in order to transform the organic material to carbon dioxide. This entire process helps bacteria to multiply and create more bugs to break down more biochemical oxygen demand.

Whatever the type of treatment used by the industries, each of the treatment systems has its place in the world today. Being different in the process, both the treatments are used to achieve maximum degradation, while taking care of standards and regulations set by the environmental agencies.
